Mckayla Maroney was an icon during the 2012 London Olympics. Her talent in gymnastics was seen by the world and became an overnight sensation. Her hard work and perserverence made her a role model for those who wanted to follow in her footsteps. Mckayla's gymnastics career started when she was about the age of 4. By the age of 9, she was a level 5 gymnast and moved to a different training club so she could further pursue her dreams of being a gymnast in the Olympics. During the next four years of being at the new training club, she moved from being a level 5 gymnast, to a level 10. This was a great improvement for her in order to potentially compete in the olympics. At 13 years old, she was competing at the state and national level and competed at the Visa Championships in Dallas, Texas. She was then chosen for the 2012 London Olympics. There, she competed with 4 other girls, Aly Raisman, Kyla Ross, Gabby Douglas, and Jordyn Weiber. They were granted the gold medal for the first time in womens gymnastics since 1996.
